WHAT?!?!

That was my reaction today when Anna told me at the dinner table she saw a magazine with "gross naked people" at the bus stop. I think my heart skipped about a hundred beats!! What kind of world are we living in?

According to Anna here is what happened. . . They saw a magazine on the ground with a picture of a pretty lady on the cover (fully clothed) so they opened it up and as soon as they realized what it was they dropped it and ran away. Anna said, "mom it was soooo gross." I'm grateful that she told me about it, but now I can't stop thinking about my little girl being exposed to that filth. It makes me so sick inside.

And of course now I have to go to all the parents of the bus stop kids and let them know. That should be fun.

Glasses and Dentist

So. . . because I jinxed myself, Robert's tooth started hurting him and his apt was moved up to today. (A week just wouldn't be complete if I didn't have at least one doctor's or dentist's apt) They did a baby root canal, a crown, and a filling. Good news is he did fabulous with the laughing gas. He only cried for about 2 seconds at one point and other than that he just relaxed and watched a movie! Hopefully one more apt and his teeth will be good again.

And just so everyone doesn't think I am a horrible mother, I DO brush his teeth twice a day and he doesn't live off candy and juice! Neither Anna or Alahna have ever had a cavity! So, I am blaming his tongue that he is still learning how to use.

We picked up his new glasses yesterday and he is very pleased with them. He tells everyone they are "magic" because they turn into sunglasses! We already miss the bambinis though. I know it is just a matter of time before he breaks these.

Sabbath Day Fun

Today Robert gave his first talk in primary. He was very excited about it and did a great job.

I was being a lazy mom and didn't put William to bed after church as I normally do, but he just couldn't make it without a nap! There is something about kids falling asleep at the table that just melts my heart.

A Big Idea

We survived another busy week and I am looking forward to next week. There are no doctors or dentists apts on the calendar!!! And now I am knocking on wood!

Anyway, today was Mormon Helping Hands, a church community service day, and because of the age limit and a soccer game we couldn't go. So, we decided to have a Petersen Helping Hands event and weeded an elderly gentleman's yard. It was a lot of fun, even with some minor grumbling from the girls! While we were weeding and talking about how much fun it is to do service projects David came up with a great idea....We are going to start tracking family service hours and saving them up for a fun trip or something. For example, today we earned 6hrs and when we have say....50 hrs we will go to the zoo.

I'm really excited about the idea, and very impressed that David came up with it. We haven't talked to the kids about it yet and want them to be involved in deciding what to work for. I can't wait to see what they come up with!

That's Just Gross!

After doing Robert and Williams hair and teeth this morning William followed Robert into the bathroom where he dipped the toothbrush into the toilet that Robert was peeing in.

I think that's pretty gross by itself, but William then put it in his MOUTH!!!

YUCK! YUCK! YUCK!

Needless to say that toothbrush is in the trash now!

Field Trips

This was the week for field trips. Yesterday, Anna went to Dana Point where they explored the tide pools, dissected a squid, and other such fun. Today Alahna went to the LA science museum. She saw dinosaurs and "beautiful rocks and gems". I was only able to go with Anna so I don't have any pics of Lahna's.

Perfect Patient

Today was Robert's first apt with the pediatric dentist. After taking x-rays and determining what he needed done they cleaned his teeth to get a feel of how cooperative he would be. He was declared a "perfect patient"! He can be a pill, but he has always been very cooperative for any kind of doctor. The good news is they think he will be fine with just laughing gas. We are praying it works, because it will save us a buckoo of money! (We'll find out in a couple of weeks when he has the first of 3 apts.)

GOOD JOB RARA!!!

Our Painting Projects

The downstairs and the girls bedroom are officially done! Well, the painting is anyway. I still need to work on curtains, but that will have to wait for another month.

Zions

Here are some pics from our trip to Zions. Despite the less than ideal weather we had fun. Although, I think in the future we won't be going on a trip the weekend of Easter when we have 9am church. That was just a little too crazy for me.

Easter

(Alahna had filled a bunch of eggs with pictures and sayings of Christ.
This is Anna after she opened one of those eggs.)

(William was so cute with the Easter egg hunt. He just kept hiding and finding the same five eggs over and over. Then he realized they were filled with candy...oh boy!)

I realize Easter was a week ago, but I just now had a chance to work on pictures. Everyone was so tired from our trip to Zions that I didn't even attempt to get a picture of all the kids together. Just know that they all had fun and everyone looked very cute in their new Ester things!

Silly Boy

William loves to explore things with his tongue. It is common to see him licking new things, even walls or floors. The other day he dumped out his juice a little at a time and licked it off the table.

Sometimes I wonder....Am I raising children or animals?

After he was done licking it up, he splashed in it for awhile then suddenly realized he was all wet, sticky and no longer having fun!

Speaking of Teeth

Robert had a dentist apt today and I left feeling like the world's worst mother. He has 5 cavities. 3 of which are so bad they are at the nerve. The dentist couldn't believe he wasn't in pain. They have referred us to a place that specializes in childrens dentistry and can put him under to have them filled. (You can bet that's gonna cost a pretty penny!)

There goes that mother of the year award:)

toothbrushing ritual

So, many of you know that Robert can be a little Obsessive Compulsive sometimes. Well, here is his latest ritual.

Toothbrushing time!

Line up all the toothbrushes.

Say who own each one.

Line up all the toothpastes. (We have way more than you would think!)

Say who likes which one...and why!

Tell you that we don't share toothbrushes.

Try to decide which of his 2 toothbrushes he will use. (this takes longer than you might think!)

Finally... he brushes his teeth!!

And lastly, rinse and spit (twice... no more, no less) and take a drink.

And heaven forbid you try to rush him! That would be asking for a major meltdown!

You would have to know Robert to really picture how this goes. it was cute and funny the first time, but it is really starting to test our patience. Just brush your teeth already!

It's a good thing he is so darn cute!

Spring Break - the rest

So today was the girls last day of spring break. Last weekend we met David's parents and Madeline and Steve at Zions National Park. We had a great time until it started raining! We were on the Middle Emerald Pools trail when it started. Hiking with 4 kids in cold rain is not my idea of a good time. Poor William really wasn't happy about getting wet.

We got home late Saturday night and we were all a little cranky Easter morning. We spent most of Sacrament meeting in the foyer, because I was just too tired to deal with William and Robert. After church we had our Easter egg hunt, a nice dinner and then watched a movie together. (I know it might not be the most appropriate Easter activity, but hey, we were really tired!)

Today we worked in the yard and the girls played outside with their friends. We also watched Bedtime Stories. Very cute if you haven't seen it yet.

I am sad they go back to school tomorrow. I don't feel like I had enough time just relaxing at home with them. Oh well, I will have summer to look forward to.

That was Anna and Alahna's Spring Break. This week is David's spring break and I am excited to have him home!

Hope everyone had a good Easter! And again, sorry about the lack of pics. Just be glad I managed to write something!

Spring Break Day 3

Today Kristen (the girl we used to babysit) came over to play and then the girls went to her house to play. It was fun to see how much she had grown and they all had a great time together. Robert was a little annoyed that he didn't get to go play, but he got over it soon enough.

William has been crybaby William again and we aren't sure what the problem is except he certainly does not feel good. He has repeated the word "owie' all evening long. when Robert said the prayer tonight he said, "bless cranky William." then he looked up at David and said, "well, he is cranky, isn't he?"

Spring Break Day 2

where to begin...

We spent most of the day in the ophthalmologist office. We always dread these appointments, but this one was worse than most. We normally know in advance if he will be dilated, but his eyes had changed so drastically in such a short time that they wanted to do it today. The only problem with that is we had already been there for three hours and everyone was getting cranky and hungry. Anyway, long story short we survived, Robert needs new glasses again, and insurance won't be covering anything this time. :(

Anna and Alahna also planned and prepared dinner for tonight. They came up with the menu all by themselves and did all the cooking. They even invited their piano teacher over! It turned out great. I am very proud of them!

Pizza Stromboli
Sweet noodles
apples
pink lemonade

YUMMY!

Sorry for the lack of pictures lately. It's easy to find a minute to type a little, but downloading a pic is a little more effort.

Spring Break Day 1

We started spring break off with a lazy morning and then a trip to the library and dollar store to stock up with supplies for the week. The girls are normally in school when I take the boys to the library so they were excited to pick out some books!

Robert's check-up

Robert saw the neurosurgeon again this week and things are looking good. They are sending us back to the orthopedist for his toe walking and they have also scheduled another MRI for July.

And just in case you were wondering, he is totally potty trained! Other than the incident on the kitchen counter it was a breeze!

A Busy Week

Sorry for the lack of posts this last week. We have been SUPER busy!

My parents arrived last Friday and we have spent every free moment (except for Sunday, of course) painting! Everything looks amazing! We painted the kitchen (including the cabinets), office, playroom, downstairs bathroom, girls room, and living room!

See, I told you we were busy! My dad also installed new light fixtures in all the bathrooms and the kitchen! I haven't had a chance to take pics yet, but they will be coming. I may have mentioned before, but my parents are amazing!
