I love good news!
William went to the orthopedist today and had some x-rays done. His arm is looking great so no surgery and he doesn't need to go in again for 3 more weeks when they will take the cast off! Hooray for answered prayers!

Keep it up
Keeping William's little arm elevated has been much harder than we anticipated and his little fingers were so swollen that it was starting to worry us just a little. So what do you do to get a three year old to cooperate? Turn it into a game.....and add some incentive. We told him that for every ten minutes he kept his arm up he would get a piece of candy. The other kids soon caught on and wanted to play. It's amazing what kids will do for one little piece of candy!
The swelling has come down quite a bit today and he has been much happier!
| Normally we had his arm propped up with pillows, but he had thrown them on the floor. |

Crash, Bang, Break!
We must have had a vacation and a temple trip planned because yesterday William decided to take a tumble and break his radius and ulna in his right arm.
Let me set the stage. Anna and I were working on math at the kitchen table, Alahna was doing math upstairs, David was getting ready for a dental appointment, and the boys were quietly and happily playing together in the playroom. Everything was going smoothly when I hear a bang followed by William crying. It wasn't a great big bang, or a serious sounding cry. I didn't even get up, just casually turned around and asked what happened, slightly annoyed that I had to stop in the middle of working through a problem with Anna. (Yeah, I feel really bad about that now.) William came walking in saying, "I hurt my arm." One look and I told Anna she was babysitting and Daddy and I were taking William to the ER. Arms are not supposed to bend like that. We yelled for Daddy, hopped in the van and off we went.
Have I ever mentioned that I love Kaiser. It was a longer drive than I would have liked, but they took such good care of my baby and so quickly. They had to sedate him to set the bones, but luckily we were able to avoid surgery for now. He will have more x-rays in a week to make sure things are still looking good. He is supposed to keep it elevated for at least 3 days. After today I am seeing that this will be a bit of a challenge. Luckily his siblings are good nurses and eager to help out.
He was pretty funny coming out of the sedation. He kept rolling his head around saying. "Whoa!" Then at one point he said, "This room just keeps trying to walk away."
He was quite upset about getting the IV and then afterward when his nurse came to check on him he told her that he wasn't crying anymore and that he liked getting holes poked in him now.
He calls his cast a big band-aid and when it was time to leave the hospital was very confused that they weren't taking it off. He did not want to go home with it on and was not happy when he figured out that it was staying on for a while.
He kept himself entertained by singing to us.

My little tough guy
Here is another moment from a few weeks ago that I can't let pass by.
Robert was playing on the couch and fell face first on the tile. It was quite a gusher and got pretty swollen and black and blue. This picture is after it had started to look considerably better. The only way he would finally agree to letting me take a picture of him was when Daddy suggested wearing boxing gloves so he would look like a "real tough guy". What do you think? Does he look tough enough?

Sports with a 3 yr. old
I have so many things I should have blogged about and haven't I am tempted to just skip them. But this one is just too cute to let go by. A couple of weeks ago we took the chickabidees to a BYU volleyball game. After about the 3rd time out of the game William looked at me and said incredulously, "They are in time out again. What do they keep doing wrong?"
And here is some cute video of him cheering for our cougars.

What kind of dog?
We went to a park today after all our schoolwork was done and Robert was walking Cookie around when he was asked what kind of dog she was.
His honest answer was, "Just the kinda dog that walks around and licks people."

Conference weekend happenings
Conference weekends are the best weekends of the year. The weekend started out with David taking the girls to see a play at his high school while the boys and I had movie and game night here at home. Saturday we enjoyed conference, working in the yard and while David went to the priesthood session the kids and I enjoyed pizza and a movie. After the afternoon session David and I each had a big bowl of ice cream. It didn't take long for one of the kids to notice and within seconds all four were asking for some. "Sorry guys, this is conference blessings for people that watched conference today." Sunday the missionaries joined us for our traditional conference breakfast and stayed to watch both sessions with us. The girls sat through all four hours and afterward asked, "Are we having conference blessings?". They were not quite satisfied with my response that their testimonies were strengthened, their spirits edified, etc. etc. .... I guess we will be having ice cream tonight.
